Sometimes, due to schedules or other
reasons, an older puppy or dog will fit into a family's or
individuals lifestyle much better than the very young puppy,
who will require much more responsibility upfront. In
these cases, or for many other reasons, you may want to
consider a rescue dog. One of the biggest myths we hear
about Rescue or Older Dogs is that they will not bond as well
with their owners. This is untrue, Samoyeds will bond
with their owners no matter their age...they are a very family
oriented breed, who will bond with those who love them.
Here are some reasons you may want to
consider the Rescue or Older Samoyed:
-
Puppies are a lot of work...Are you
prepared for that responsibility?
-
Puppies are small & cuddly for only a
short amount of time.
-
Puppies will want to chew on things
while they are teething.
-
There will be housebreaking duties,
which involve interrupted sleep at night.
-
Puppies are not able to hold their
bladders or bowels as long during the day if you work.
-
If you work too long of hours away from
the home maybe you should re-consider getting a dog
altogether, unless you can come home during the day to let
your puppy or older dog out or if you have someone responsible
and dependable who is willing to do so.
-
Puppies can be more destructive than the
older dog.
-
If you have a baby or younger child
remember they and your new puppy will involve a great deal of
responsibility. Sometimes the responsibility of both
youngsters can be overwhelming. Something for you to
consider PRIOR to getting your puppy. The latter is
sometimes how older puppies end up in rescue (or, older dog-no
time anymore for the dog). The older dog is many times
much more settled and less active than a young puppy.
-
Remember, a young puppy will live
anywhere from 12-15 years most likely. Where do you
anticipate your family being in 12-15 years.
-
You will help save a Smile!
These are just some of the reasons, not
all, that you may want to consider the older puppy or older
dog in Rescue.
